Daily Sun checks revealed that the Adamawa State chapter of the
party, led by its Chairman, Binta Garuba endorsed the former
vice-president as its candidate for the APC presidential ticket.
Addressing the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, the
former vice-president restated his willingness to submit himself to the
outcome of the presidential convention.
The presidential convention of the main opposition party holds next month.
The former vice-president, who noted that he was the first to pick
the form and the first to return it, thanked the party for giving him
the opportunity to pick its presidential form.
“I want to thank you and the party for the opportunity given us,
first of all to be the first to pick the form. I also want to thank you
for the opportunity again to be the first to return the form.
“Let me assure you Mr. Chairman, we would continue to be loyal and
dedicated party members, no matter the outcome of the convention.”
National chairman of the APC, Odigie Oyegun expressed satisfaction
over the quality of aspirants seeking the party presidential ticket and
the cooperation among them.
Oyegun said:”You were the first to pick your forms and the first to return them.
“What one can say is that you have properly exemplified what APC
stands for today : a thorougly organised party, and seeking to be the
first in everything– putting the nation first.
“ I also want to say that in my movement, I have come across your
footsteps all over the place, just like I have seen the footsteps of all
our other aspirants.
“So,with everyday that passes, APC is growing in strength and popularity.
“What is even more important is that at the beginning, I must confess
I was nervous but now having listened to each and everyone of you, I
want to say, I am very confident that we are having a matured,
healthy, robust debate and a debate in which each and everyone of you
emphasises at the end that whoever emerges as candidate, you are all
going to rally around that person in the interest of the Nigerian
nation, in the interest of the long suffering Nigerian masses, to
deliver the APC and that candidate.”
The former Edo State governor admonished Atiku Abubakar to be
prepared for the enormous challenges before him as he noted that the
country has been run aground under the ruling party.
Oyegun said:”I want to sat that with everyday that passes the need
for change becomes evident, the urgency for change becomes manifest, the
desire of the people for change is really becoming overpowering;
that’s the feedback we get everyday.
“You should have it at the back of your mind that you are dealing
with a nation at the precipice and a party that doesn’t care; that even
if they care, they don’t know what to do.
“That’s the enormity of the responsibilities that fall on your shoulders, you and all our aspirants today.”
