No fewer than 12 people have been killed by Boko Haram insurgents in weekend’s attack on Chibok, the abducted schoolgirls’ town, South of Borno State.
Some fleeing residents, who arrived in Maiduguri, the state capital and Damaturu in Yobe State, recounted how the insurgents took the serene town unaware, forcing military troops in the area to flee.
One of the fleeing residents who did not want his name in print, told Daily Sun that he saw six corpses as he fled on Friday afternoon, adding that the insurgents threw explosives into houses before they opened fire, shooting sporadically.
“They were not that many as people claimed. People were just confused because the Boko Haram were throwing bombs into houses, forcing people to flee their houses and they opened fire, shooting at those fleeing. Many people, whose houses were located on the outskirts like me, were a little lucky as it was easier for us to escape into the bush,” he said.
Another survivor, Ezekiel Musa, who escaped to Jigawa, told Daily Sun on phone that the casualty could be higher, saying more corpses may be in some houses and streets as people could not wait to count corpses in the midst of the attack
