A GOVERNORSHIP aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Maj. Lancelot Anyanya (rtd), has said his
aspiration is to forge a new sense of greatness among people of the
state, irrespective of their station in life, by creating opportunities
for all.
He spoke in Port Harcourt Saturday while responding to comments
by kings and chiefs of his Andoni ethnic group who came together to
formally endorse him for the position of governor in the state.
“Rivers State is destined to be the leader among the comity of
states. The reality is that we have not achieved greatness; we have also
not achieved the peak of our excellence. We have come to give our
people a new direction. Whether you choose to live in the fishing port,
in a farming community, wherever you choose to be or wherever you find
yourself, you can be great. And that is the message we have brought. And
it is into that calling of greatness that God has given every human
being that we have come to appeal to the creative energy of Rivers’
people, and by providing an environment where everyone can be great. In
the new Rivers State of our dream, the only limitation to greatness is
the individual,” he said.
Lancelot told the assembly of the traditional rulers that having
contemplated the race for a while, it was time for him to inform them
about his governorship ambition and solicit their support.
While acknowledging the neutrality of the traditional rulers in
spite of their preferences, he likened his aspiration to the Biblical
narration of how God chose Bethlehem when he wanted to give salvation to
mankind instead of the bigger tribes in Israel, alluding to his own
Andoni clan in relationship to others tribes in Rivers State.
