Two students in court over alleged threat to kill lecturer


TWO students of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, who allegedly threatened to kill their lecturer, yesterday appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s  Court in Lagos.
  The accused- Tayo Ogunyomi, 24, and Kehinde Olaoye, 28, - reside in Yaba and Gbagada areas of Lagos respectively.
  They were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of public peace and membership of an unlawful society.

  The prosecutor, Insp. Rita Momah, told the court that the offences were committed on Oct.16 at 9:00 p.m. on the school campus.
  She said the students sent text messages to the phone of their lecturer, one Mrs Abraham Ibe, threatening to kill her.
  According to the prosecutor, the accused were among the students who were earlier caught cheating during an examination conducted in the school.
  “They sent text messages to Mrs. Ibe stating that they were “Axe men” and members of the Eiye confraternity, a secret society,
  “They also stated in their message that they would exterminate her,” Momah said.
  Momah said that the offences contravened Sections 41, 56 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
  According to NAN reports, Section 41 prescribes seven years imprisonment for anyone found liable of managing an unlawful society.
  However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
  The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Erinle, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 11, 2014.
