Here are the five Goal Hall of Fame entrants for 2014

The Goal Hall of Fame welcomed its inaugural entrants this week, with global icons Zinedine Zidane, Diego Maradona, Pele, Ferenc Puskas and Ronaldo the first greats to be inducted.

Zidane had the honour of being the first figure selected on Monday. The former Real Madrid, Juventus and France star sealed his iconic status with telling contributions in the World Cup final of 1998 and a memorable volley in the Champions League final of 2002.

Three-time World Cup winner Pele was next to be inducted. Widely considered the greatest player of all time, the Brazil legend boasted a remarkable scoring record with his national team and also with Santos, where he spent nearly two decades.

Diego Maradona was also elected for inclusion. The former Barcelona and Napoli ace was world football's most dazzling player of his time, with his stunning contribution in the 1986 World Cup playing a key role as Argentina won the competition.

Ferenc Puskas is the only one of the four inductees never to have won the World Cup, though he did score in the final of 1954 as Hungary lost to West Germany. Instead, he played a leading role on the Spanish domestic scene, where he was a key player in the Real Madrid side that dominated the first six European Cup competitions.

Ronaldo was elected as the final icon to be introduced into this elite company. His thrilling contribution to the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter wrought countless goals and in the World Cup final of 2002 he was the decisive factor for Brazil.

Goal's worldwide team of experts produced a shortlist of 15 names for our first batch of inductees and we asked you, the readers, to pick which legends should be included.

Over 100,000 fans from all over the world voted to select the first batch of greats.

We have exclusive interviews, features, galleries and videos celebrating the careers of our top five. You can also share your thoughts throughout the week on social media using the Hashtag #GoalHOF.

In particular, let us know who you think should be amongst the next five players to be inducted by voting in the poll below.
