Failed presidential bid: Okorocha picks APC Imo guber ticket

Less than 20 hours after Governor Rochas Okorocha crashed out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries held on December 11, 2014, the Imo State APC yesterday hurriedly organized a gubernatorial primary apparently to beat the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the submission of candidates’ names by parties for the 2015 general elections.
The state Commissioner for Lands and the son-in-law of Governor Okorocha, Chief Uche Nwosu, had earlier been elected as the consensus governorship candidate of the party prior to the presidential primary of the APC.
Chairman of the election committee of the party, Mr. John Alamba, said the party had to organize another gubernatorial primaries in line with the party’ s constitution to replace Chief Uche Nwosu, who had suddenly withdrew his candidature.
He pointed out that the electoral committee had to summon the delegates again to participate in another primaries to elect another governorship candidate of the party for the forthcoming general elections.
