Abia PDP: Group writes open letter to Jonathan over primaries

A group known as Concerned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, which is a Coalition of all PDP members in Abia State have asked President Goodluck Jonathan to investigate what it described as a hijack of the primaries of the state by Governor Theodore Orji.
In a statement signed by the chairman of the group, Chigozie Agbakwo, the group asked the President to look into the grievances that emanated from the primaries in the state for the good of the party.
The statement read in part: “As you know sir, the ward congress of the party was the worst ever in the history of Nigerian politics. It was hijacked by Governor Orji  and his cohorts for the sole aim of executing their imposition agenda on the party and on the entire state. There was no election throughout the 17 local government areas in Abia State, yet the 3-man delegates’ list was compiled and handed over to Tony Ceaser’s committee for onward transmission to the National Headquarters in Abuja. Three incumbent senators from the state lodged a serious complaint against that gross irregularity but were ignored by the party’s leadership. Abia people from history are known to pull together when they must and it is dangerous to place our great party in a position of vulnerability and susceptibility to a “protest vote” which is what may happen if this ugly trend is not abated immediately.
“Governor Orji’s government promulgated a zoning arrangement with a clear pretense of “equity” to favour the Ngwa axis in the state. However, the hypocrisy of that arrangement  became clear when in another breath, Abia Central, which houses the major Ngwa stock was excluded by the “equity governor”. The scheming and manipulation of ‘zoning’ the governorship position to Abia South is to ensure the emergence of a particular candidate from Obingwa Local Government Area and to enable Governor Orji to colonise the Abia Central Senatorial position in 2015.
“These aberrations, he is almost achieving because in the primaries for the state House of Assembly that took place on November 29, 2014, all the candidates of Governor Orji were returned as PDP candidates. They included his son, some of his commissioners, aides, relations and cohorts.
“Mr. President, Governor T.A. Orji, his son and friends alone cannot and will not deliver PDP in Abia State. They do not possess the credentials, capability, integrity and goodwill. All Abians are waiting for the final slip of PDP on December 8, 2014 during the gubernatorial primaries for them to move over en masse to the opposition parties for the credible candidates there. It will happen by way of “protest votes.”
We, therefore, implore you Sir to use your exalted office to redeem the manifest injustice and the impending doom that Governor T.A Orji, his family and friends want to foist on our great party and by extension to your lawful ambition in 2015.”
